Before you send that draft

Wrote your contract with AI? Read this first.

Every week someone sends us a contract an AI wrote and asks for a quick look at a small price. We understand the thinking, and we would rather tell you the truth than quote you an hourly rate: the AI draft is usually the expensive route. Here are three cheaper ones, each with a price on it.

Why "just take a look" is the expensive version

The risk is in what is missing.

An AI draft reads well. The problems are the clauses it did not write: the cap on liability, the IP assignment, the notice period, the bit that makes the deed a deed. Finding an absence takes longer than checking a presence.

An unknown document takes longer than a known one.

When we start from our own template we know every clause and why it is there. When we start from yours, we have to read all of it, and we are responsible for all of it.

So the price goes up, not down.

A review of a document we have never seen is a real piece of work. We have put a fixed price on it below, so nobody has to negotiate. But the template is cheaper, and usually better.

Three ways to get the document, with the price on the door

1. Start from a template

Forty documents, £19 to £149 each

Drafted by a solicitor for England and Wales, with notes that explain each choice. Buy the Word file and adapt it with the prompts below, or sign in and answer questions to have it filled in for you. Two NDAs are free, three a month. The whole library is £299.

2. The platform plan

All forty as fill-in forms, £29 a month

For a business that signs more than one contract a month. Every template as a guided form, Companies House prefill, and both signatures collected online. £249 a year.

3. Fixed-fee review of your document

Send what you have. AI-drafted or not.

A solicitor reads your document and sends written notes within three working days: what is wrong, what is missing, and what to change, with one round of follow-up questions by email. Pay by card, then upload the file on the next page.

Short document

Up to 8 pages

NDA, short services or consultancy agreement, website terms, a single policy, a letter.

Standard commercial

Up to 20 pages

Employment or contractor agreement, SaaS terms, MSA, data processing agreement, licence, distribution or referral agreement.

Investment or complex

Up to 40 pages

Shareholders' agreement, articles, subscription agreement, ASA, loan note, settlement agreement, joint venture.

Started from an Atka template? The receipt link from your template purchase gives £50 off a review of the finished document. Longer or unusual documents: ask for a quote.

Six prompts for adapting a template with AI, safely

We are not against AI. We are against AI with no checkpoint. Each prompt below does one job and ends with what to check afterwards. They work in ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini. Read them here, or have the pack emailed to you.

Use it when: Before you change anything. Make sure you understand what you are signing.

You are helping me understand a contract written for England and Wales. I will paste it below. Explain, in plain English and in order: (1) who the parties are and what each one must do; (2) how money flows and when; (3) how and when either side can end it; (4) what each side is liable for and any caps or exclusions; (5) anything unusual, one-sided or missing that a careful business owner would want to know about. Do not rewrite the contract. Quote the clause numbers you rely on.

[Paste the document below this line]

Then check: If the summary surprises you, the problem is the document, not the summary. Read the clauses it quotes before you go further.

We store your name and email to send the pack. See our privacy policy.
